Welcome to Squirrel Chat!
*****The Functionality of this page is a work in progress.*****
This page was created for various reasons.
Once the book is read, what do you do then? You can’t continue to read it over and over again, so I have found some other activities that involve Earl and Pearl so that the students can continue to practice /r/ in various positions.
I would love to hear your funny stories about squirrels.
I would thoroughly enjoy your stories about the students and the squirrels. When you share those stories, be sure not to state their names for privacy reasons.
If you have a question, you can pose it here.
If you have suggestions on how to use the book or kit, I would love to hear those.
If you are having difficulty with the kit or book, please let me know either here or on the Contact page of the website.
So, I will go first and share some of the ideas on how to continue to use Earl and Pearl. After I read the book, the squirrels stayed on my table for about a week. The next week the squirrels were not on my table. The students asked where they were. I stated that I did not know where they were AND THERE WERE NUTS UNDER MY DESK!. All the students immediately jumped out of their chairs to look under my desk and all of their reactions were the same. They all exclaimed, “There are! There are nuts under your desk!” At this point they all began to look for the squirrels and found all of them. An idea would be to have them use prepositions to state where the squirrels were. I then told them to hide them for the next group.
The squirrels were on the table for about another week, when I walked into the room and there were acorns all over the floor, tables, and counter tops of my room. They were everywhere! The students asked, “What happened?” I just replied, “SQUIRRELS!”
Again, the squirrels were quiet for about a week until I had to take them home for a photoshoot. The following week the students asked where were the squirrels. I stated that the squirrels thought they were going to be famous, so they didn’t think they needed to work. So, they refused to come to work. After Christmas break, all the animals were back at work. I guess we all needed a break.
Stay tuned for more squirrel shenanigans and please share your stories for others to enjoy.
